Zukerman Chamber Players 2009Monday 10 August
Recognised as a musical phenomenon, Pinchas Zukerman leads the world-renowned Zukerman Chamber Players. His genius and prodigious technique have long been a marvel to critics and audiences.
Featuring Pinchas Zukerman (violin), Jessica Linnebach (violin), Jethro Marks (viola), Ashan Pillai (viola) and Amanda Forsyth (cello), the Zukerman Chamber Players were formed in 2002 and have performed around the world and recorded four CDs. Presented in association with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
The programme opens with the Duo for violin and cello by Kodály. Bartók described Kodály‚s music as „the most perfect embodiment of the Hungarian spirit‰, clearly evident in this awe-inspiring work.
Beethoven‚s ŒStorm‚ quintet, which finishes with an exhilarating Œpresto‚ finale, is followed by Dvorák‚s Quintet Opus 97 featuring music inspired by folk songs he heard in America where this work was composed.
